Studio Theatre’s 2019 / 2020 season is rich with heart, humour, and great stories.

If you haven’t been to Studio Theatre, Perth lately, you’ve missed some fantastic community theatre. But as one season ends, another one is right behind it!

Our summer show this year is Salt-Water Moon, a beautiful Canadian love story written by David French and directed by Jane Stott, set against the rugged backdrop of a Newfoundland fishing village. Following Salt-Water Moon, the Studio Theatre’s 2019/2020 series of plays begins in September, and it promises to be one of our best seasons ever. Remember, with a Studio Theatre season pass you can enjoy six fantastic live stage plays — that’s six great reasons to get out of the house, join friends for dinner, and have an amazing theatre experience — for as little as $90.

And there’s more great news! We’re thrilled to announce that the Studio Theatre has been chosen to host the 2019 edition of the Eastern Ontario Drama League One-Act Play Festival in November. Tickets for this prestigious event will be available separately this fall.

Here are the plays we’re proud to bring our audiences for 2019/2020:

Ed’s Garage. A comedy by Dan Needles. September 19 – 29, 2019.

A popular former farmer and part-time mechanic finds a new vocation as a community counsellor, giving advice to neighbours with problems. But comic complications arise when Cassandra, an urban psychotherapist, sets up a private practice next door. In short, when big city advice meets down-home common sense, you’ve got a problem!

An Evening of One-Act Plays. October 24 – 27, 2019. Titles To Be Announced shortly

The Eastern Ontario Drama League One-Act Play Festival, hosted by Studio Theatre Perth. November 8, 9, 2019. (Tickets available separately.)

Out of Sight…Out of Murder. A Mystery/Comedy by Fred Carmichael. January 16 – 26, 2020

Peter Knight is grinding out a murder story in an old mansion where another author was murdered years before. Suddenly, a strange electrical storm brings the characters in his book to life — the lovely ingenue, the trusty butler, the dauntless hero, and the wily lawyer. When other murders begin to happen, Peter races to find out which of his characters wants him to be the next victim…

Marion Bridge. A Drama by Daniel MacIvor. February 27 – March 8, 2020

When three daughters arrive home to Cape Breton to see their mother for the last time, they must confront her expectations of them, and the realities of the lives they’ve made for themselves. This is a uniquely Canadian portrait of a dysfunctional family reuniting, rendered with intelligence, humour, and compassion. Marion Bridge was nominated for a Governor General’s Award.

Tempting Providence. A Comedy/Drama by Robert Chafe. April 23 – May 3, 2020

In 1921, British-trained volunteer nurse Myra Bennett arrives in the isolated Newfoundland community of Daniel’s Harbour. Unprepared yet undaunted, Myra travels by foot and dogsled to deliver babies, set bones, and save lives on Newfoundland’s  rugged 320 kilometer Great Northern Peninsula. Tempting Providence is the inspiring true account of a Canadian legend.

This Year Next Year. A Drama by Norah Harding. May 28 – June 7, 2020

In Bournemouth, England in 1944, a mother and her three daughters live through the final agonizing months of WWII. This Year Next Year is a heart-warming story of hope and hardship, based on true events.
