Studio Theatre announces its upcoming season of plays
The shows at Perth’s community theatre just keep getting better. And this year, for as little as $90 you can enjoy six fantastic live stage plays — that’s six great reasons to get out of the house, join friends for dinner, and have an amazing theatre experience right here in Perth.
Our 2018/2019 season begins October 11, 2018. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Queen Milli Of Galt by Gary Kirkham. October 11 – 21, 2018
In 1972, the Duke of Windsor (Edward VIII) dies in exile at the age of 78. Two weeks later, in Canada, an 80 year-old woman from a small town named Galt has her tombstone engraved, claiming to be the Duke’s wife. A young journalist appears at her door, eager for answers. Flashback to 1919 for an extraordinary romantic comedy about secrets and unexpected love.
The Marvelous Wonderettes – Dream On by Roger Bean. November 15 – 25, 2018
Directed by C. Lee Bates, the phenomenal show The Marvelous Wonderettes blew the doors off the Studio Theatre this past year. If you missed it, don’t worry — here’s the sequel! In The Marvelous Wonderettes – Dream On the girls are back at Springfield High, singing their way through the greatest hits of the 60s and 70s, the soundtrack of our lives, performed with that marvelous Wonderettes spin!
The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble by Beth Graham. January 17 – 27, 2019
Iris Trimble may very well fly off the face of the earth if she doesn’t hang on to the kitchen counter. At least that’s how she feels after her mother, Bernice, a lively, recently widowed fifty-nine-year-old breaks the news that she has Alzheimer’s. Iris and her siblings each have their own ways of dealing with the news, while Bernice, as vivacious as ever, is ready to finally put herself first. Exceptionally well written, The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble is intense, poignant, and wonderfully nuanced.
Alone Together Again by Lawrence Roman. February 21 – March 3, 2019
In this hilarious Broadway comedy, mom and dad have spent the last thirty years raising three active sons. They’ve so looked forward to the peace, the quiet and the privacy of an empty nest, and it’s finally happened! Peace? Quiet? Not for long. The empty nest fills up again with the unexpected arrival of their parents, each with their own comic problems. Alone Together Again is clever, witty, and wise.
Hamish by Michael Grant. April 4 – 14, 2019
Hamish is a heartwarming comedy about family and love. Kelli books a trip for her overworked husband and herself to his ancestors’ former homestead in the Scottish highlands. She is planning to announce some big news, but something even bigger is afoot as they discover a deceased ancestor has not yet quite left home. With the help of a bumbling local, this motley — and ghostly — gang sets out to save the homestead from a rival clan and preserve the family name.
The Ladies Foursome by Norm Foster. May 30 – June 9, 2019
The day after their friend Catherine’s funeral, Margot, Tate, and Connie gather for a round of golf in honour of their recently departed fourth. At the golf course they are joined by another woman, an old friend of Catherine’s they’d never met. Over the course of eighteen holes — played in real time — secrets and confessions unravel as the women discuss love, sex, children, and everything in between. The Ladies Foursome is Norm Foster at his very best.
