Welcome to the Studio Theatre

EODL One-Act Drama Festival 2011

Once again, the Studio Theatre has a "host" of successes!

Two years ago, the Studio Theatre was privileged to host the 2009 Eastern Ontario Drama League's One Act Play Festival. At that event, our theatre garnered a number of important acting awards, as well as winning accolades for mounting one of the most successful festivals ever.

I'm proud to say that we've done it again!

November 11th to13th, eight theatre groups from across Eastern Ontario met once again on our stage, and for the second time in three years the Studio Theatre put on a show to remember! The festival was a huge success, attracting hundreds of eager theatre lovers, including over 200 out-of-towners who dined in Perth's restaurants, shopped in our stores, and stayed in our hotels and B&Bs. Visitor after visitor commented on the beauty of our town, its welcoming people, and the rich diversity of our shops. Many local businesses came forward to sponsor the festival, and we can't thank them enough for their generous support.

Oh, did I mention the awards we won? This is an adjudicated festival, and 12 awards were given out to individuals and theatre companies for various aspects of their productions. Of the 12 possible awards, Studio Theatre Productions was nominated for seven, and we won three -- no mean feat for our little theatre company. We're thrilled to have such talent in our midst!

Our congratulations go to the following for their outstanding performances:

Danielle MacDonald – Winner, Mae Carmichael Award for Acting (Female) for Mail Order Annie

Lucas Tennant and Laurie Reesor – Winner, Peterborough Theatre Guild Adjudicator’s Award for Ensemble Acting for The Christmas Tree

EODL One-Act Drama Festival 2010

Hosted by Ottawa Little Theatre, Ottawa

Following a successful run at the Studio Theatre, the first productions of last season, “My Narrator” and “The Last Act Is a Solo”, directed by Roberta Peets and Kathie Reid respectively, were entered in the Eastern Ontario Drama League Festival of One-Act Plays, held at the Ottawa Little Theatre last November. Not only were they accepted into the festival but they went on to win several awards, including Best Female Actor in a leading role (Joanne McAuley); Best Female Actor in a supporting role (Barb Guthrie) and the People’s Choice Award for Best Play selected by the audience, namely My Narrator.

In addition, they were nominated for awards in five other categories which included Roberta Peets and Kathie Reid for Best New Director; Ann Hawthorn for set dressing in “The Last Act Was a Solo”; Supporting Actors Lucas Tenant and Alfred Von Mirbach in “My Narrator” and Paul Roach in “The Last Act Is a Solo”.

This was quite an accomplishment for a small community theatre and certainly indicative of the high quality of our productions.

Congratulations again to all!
